Knitwear Design: Spring 2019
Over the course of the semester I got to explore the creative process of designing in 3D through my knitwear class. In this course I learned various knitting patterns, techniques, and created many knitwear accessories and as well as designing, patterning, and developing my own sweater. Some of the knitwear accessories I was able to create within the semester include gloves, hats, headbands, and scarves.
For my final project I decided to create a sweater with a fanned-rib-yoke pattern that was initially inspired by my CFDA collection.
First, I started off with a sketch. From my sketch, I was able to calculate and envision the collar details as well as developing a formula for the increasing fanned-rib-yoke pattern.
After increasing the fan-ribbed-yoke to the desired length, I then began knitting the rest of the body of the sweater and sectioned off armholes for the sleeves.
Then, when the body was complete with the desired hem ribbing, I began to knit the sleeves.
Finally, once the sleeves where developed and all loose ends were sewn in, the sweater was complete.
This project helped me understand that developing beautiful garments take hard work, patiences, and time.
