Flotation: Process Book and Collection Development
Over my winter break of 2018-2019, I developed my Flotation Collection process book. This process book explores different design techniques such as draping, print development, natural dying, and geometric patterning/draping.
My Flotation Collection was inspired by the lantern festivals Yi Peng and Loy Krathong, that take place in Thailand and Northern Thailand every February. I experimented with lantern destruction and re-patterning the lanterns shapes to drape with.
This collection would potentially be constructed using all organic/ natural fabrics and fibers and would be naturally dyed using a variations of plants such as indigo and quebracho red and turmeric roots. The patterns would be traditionally block printed or embroidered on the garments rather than digitally printed.Throughout the process book I include potential fabrics, colors, trims, and patterns as well as flat drawings of each garment. I wanted this collection to be light and organic as the lanterns that float though the sky. I aimed to develop more softer and organic looking garments that reflect this movement as well as adapt to the women wearing it.
