The Senior Collection Creative Process

At Marist College, the Fall Semester of your senior year focuses on the creative development and process of formulating a senior collection, along with three senior portfolios. Going into this semester, each senior presents two major inspirations to the Marist Fashion Faculty for their senior collections. They then, work closely with the Fashion Design Professors to solidify an inspiration and help the students visions come to life.

During this semester I focused the majority of my time on sketching, draping, and developing fit samples for my senior collection and my portfolio. All of this process formulated, adjusted, and changed became document in my process book with fit correction notes, creative development, and fabric samples and swatches. As this semester proceeded, I juggled developing three separate portfolio groups as well as developing a 6 look collection in muslin fit samples.

At the end of the semester, the senior designers and I presented our collection once again for the Marist Fashion Faculty and for the Fashion Show Production Team for SNR34 (Silver Needle Runway Show). The final presentation of the samples helped designers showcase their collections vision, get professional feedback, and to make any last minute changes to their collection before final production. From that point on, the collection was then elevated from muslin fit samples to final patterns, final fabric swatches, and planning garment constructional details.
